Jordan, Ritchie join Graham in missing Samoa finale
Scotland will face Samoa on Friday without two more key players after back Tom Jordan and flanker Jamie Ritchie were ruled out through injury following winger Darcy Graham's call-up by the British and Irish Lions. But forwards Rory Sutherland and Ewan Ashman are available to face the Samoans in Scotland's final summer tour game before they join the Lions squad. Scotland coach Pete Horne revealed it was not such good news for Ritchie, who picked up a foot injury against Fiji, and Jordan, who found out after battling against pain to finish the game that he had a hand fracture. "He had a little bit of pain after the game," Horne said. "He's such a tough bugger - he doesn't really complain about anything - but he had a bit of swelling in his hand. "He went for a scan and an x-ray and he's actually got a fracture." Advertisement Scotland's defeat by Fiji dented their hopes of improving their world ranking in order to be among the top seeds at the World Cup draw in December. However, Horne said that head coach Gregor Townsend did not have to be persuaded to part with Graham. "Gregor's a massive supporter of the Lions," he said. "If they'd needed them now, he'd have been all for them going away. "But, then, getting another game with us, I think is part of the Lions' plan. They were happy for them to play this weekend and I think the fact that we're playing on a Friday definitely helps. Advertisement "Friday night to the Wednesday isn't as bad as a Saturday to Wednesday. So I'm sure Gregor will be quite willing to support any plan that Andy [Farrell] and the Lions have and if it means limiting a little bit of game time or whatever then I'm sure that'll be the case." Scotland, who initially lost eight players to the Lions, have no plans to call in any late replacements of their own. "By the time anyone gets out of here, it'll take them a few days with the jet lag and stuff - it's a tough old travel," Horne added. "We're pretty well covered, to be honest. "We've got adequate cover across the backs. Training might be a little bit hampered, but I'm sure we'll be fine." Related internet links

Jamie Ritchie and Tom Jordan ruled out of Scotland's Test with Samoa
Scotland have lost Jamie Ritchie and Tom Jordan to injury for their final summer tour match against Samoa. Flanker Ritchie, who left Edinburgh this summer to sign for Perpignan, and new Bristol back Jordan were both injured in Saturday's 29-14 defeat by Fiji. However, Matt Fagerson has brushed off the knock he suffered in Suva and both Ben Muncaster and Gregor Brown are in line to return for Friday's game at Eden Park in Auckland. Assistant coach Pete Horne said: 'Jamie, unfortunately, he's hurt his foot. He's going to be ruled out for the weekend, which is a shame for him. 'We've got good news on Matt. He trained earlier and is going to be fit for the weekend, which is great. 'And then another one that's unlucky is Tom Jordan. He had a little bit of pain after the game. He doesn't really complain about anything but he had a bit of swelling in his hand. 'He went for a scan and an X-ray and he's actually got a fracture in his hand. So he's going to be ruled out of this weekend as well.' On the players who missed out on Saturday, Horne said: 'Gregor is progressing really well. He took part in a bit of training earlier. He's going through his return to play protocol but he's tracking really well and should be available, all going well, over the next couple of days. 'And Ben was back training by the back end last week. So he'll be fine as well.'

The second Test against Argentina in San Juan hit their hooking stocks hard, with Jamie George called up by the British & Irish Lions and Theo Dan suffering a knee injury that has ruled him out of the rest of the tour. Advertisement George had hoped to play in the Test after leading a young squad on this tour, but was asked to withdraw from the game by Lions head coach Andy Farrell to ensure he did not pick up and injury or a suspension before flying out to Brisbane. Meanwhile, Dan, who stepped into the starting line-up as a result, suffered an injury to his knee in the second half of the encounter and was forced off. He underwent a scan to determine the nature of the damage. He had previously spent 15 months on the sidelines with an injury to the same knee prior to breaking onto the international scene. As a result of these absences, Steve Borthwick has been forced into calling up two hookers for the final match in the States. Curtis Langdon, the Northampton Saints hooker, came off the bench in the 22-17 win over Los Pumas, and would appear to be in pole position to start against the Eagles. Advertisement Meanwhile, Bristol Bears hooker Oghre and Leicester Tigers No.2 Blamire were on standby for the tour and will now fly out to join the rest of the squad. That could see Oghre earn his first cap, having toured with England in New Zealand last summer without making an appearance. He did feature for England A last year as they beat Australia A, and was part of the Bears team that reached the Gallagher Premiership play-offs this season. Blamire, meanwhile, has seven caps to his name, having made his debut back in 2021 against the USA. He came off the bench to score a try in that encounter before scoring a hat-trick a week later against Canada, only the second England men's hooker to achieve the feat after George had done so in 2020. Advertisement Blamire, who had spent his entire career at Newcastle Falcons before joining Leicester Tigers this summer, has a remarkable try-scoring record for his country, racking up six tries in his seven caps to date. Borthwick could have looked at some younger alternatives in Sale Sharks' new signing Nathan Jibulu and England Under-20s Kepu Tuipulotu, who is set to captain them at the World Rugby Under-20s Championship against Wales in Italy, while Tom Dunn, Jack Singleton and Jack Walker have all won caps in the past.
